On August 4, students from the Baltimore Jewish Council’s Elijah Cummings Youth Program (ECYP) visited the StandWithUs (SWU) Israel office for a lecture with Michelle Rojas-Tal, Director of Diaspora Education. ECYP in Israel brings together African-American and Jewish students from the Baltimore area for a youth exchange; a number of the African-American students come to Israel each year as part of a three-week program where they travel the country with counterparts from the Yemin Ord Youth Village on Mount Carmel. The students learned about the work of StandWithUs and the importance of challenging hate speech against Israel on campus. It was the group’s first encounter with SWU and one which both organizations hope to expand. All participants were given a copy of Israel 101 at the end of the lecture, the essential StandWithUs brochure.
