Diller Teens focus on Community Service in Ashkelon

Check out the Baltimore Diller Teen Fellows Blog for Alex Kadish, Rebecca Abbott and Michael Ginsburg’s summary of the last two incredible days in Ashkelon.

Additional highlights include:

  • During their community service week in Ashkelon, the teens will be volunteering in a variety of settings throughout the city.  In addition to the sites mentioned on the blog, the Diller Fellows participated in a workshop on advocacy and the power of youth.  In groups, the teens determined an issue to promote, created a petition and walked the streets of Ashkelon asking its residents to support their cause.

  • Although the teens are VERY busy, their schedule does include some downtime.  Over the last two days, the teens spent a few hours at the beach, swimming, relaxing and building sandcastles.  And, in addition to touring Ashkelon National Park, the teens were given time in the park to play Frisbee, soccer and simply “hang out.”

  • The teens are heading to Aroma (the closest Israel has to a Starbucks) every chance they have.  Some things never change.
